THE LOGISTICS INDUSTRY – A LAST FRONTIER FOR DISRUPTIVE TECHNOLOGY
The world’s chemical industry is expected to grow from $4.1 trillion in 2013 to at least $5.1 trillion by 2020 according to a reports from consulting firms like Solidiance, or Rolad Berger. The global chemical industry has seen steady growth over the past decade with high demand emanating from Asia, and is expected to grow rapidly recent research from Roland Berger finds. The major driver for growth remains China, whose 25% chemical industry CAGR ended in 2013, but whose 8% annual growth rate to 2020 will continue to boost the industry. Particularly innovation in the automotive industry, energy transformation, construction and electronics will continue to increase chemical industry growth.
Automotive: As China is set to become the world’s largest automotive market, innovation in products for the industry will continue apace. Energy: A global shift from carbon rich to sustainable energy sources – planned in the face of climate change – boosts the need for innovation in photo-electrics as well as other ways of producing sustainable energy. Construction: The construction sector has enjoyed unprecedented growth in China and the rest of Asia over recent years, with continued demand from the residential and commercial sector, new materials and chemical products will continue to be in demand. Electrical & Electronic: The continued demand of advanced electronics and ever more miniaturisation are pushing the chemical industry to come up with innovative solutions to producing electronics and improve performance.
DIGITIZATION IS OVERDUE IN THE CHEMICAL TRANSPORT SECTOR
WE WORK AS IF WE WE’RE STILL IN THE 70’S, WITH FAX MACHINES, PRINTED PAPER, PHONE, AND A LOT OF EMAIL
THE 4 PRESSURE POINTS IN CHEMICAL TRANSPORT:
- Fragmented communication across multiple channels such as email, Fax, EDI’s and telephone
- Monitoring complex technical requirements with analog tools and communication channels
- Complex cargo restrictions
- Unclear equipment location
LOGCHAIN IS A UNIFIED PLATFORM:
VERIFICATION & CONTROL
The Logchain Protocol with real-time data storage, data access and data interaction is a fully IOT and smart-contract enabled platform. – improved inventory management, resource planning, waste elimination and improved workflow are the result. Blockchain can assist with tasks like the following:
- Entering transactions/agreements between manufacturers, vendors, suppliers and intermediaries
- Documenting purchase orders, changes, invoices, receipts and other accounting, finance and tax documentation
- Demonstrating and verifying that approvals and certifications relating to the quality of cargo are in place at any given time
- Record-keeping to satisfy legal compliance obligations and to minimize business risk
- Reporting on any touchpoint in the manufacturing and shipping process, including assembly, maintenance, delivery
THE LOGISTICS INDUSTRY – A LAST FRONTIER FOR DISRUPTIVE TECHNOLOGY
THE LOGCHAIN PROTOCOL IS A
The safe movement of chemicals is complex and requires the accurate transfer of data to ensure compliance and efficiency. The blockchain will provide considerable benefits to all inter-modal supply chains stakeholders. This would range from ensuring that the correct tank was selected for the product, through to ensuring all the necessary documentation for importing the goods into the destination country.
IMMUTABLE DATA MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE
The immutability of the data would improve the safety and security of the operation by eliminating fraud and the human factors that cause errors and delays. All aspects of tank container operations such as specification, cleaning, maintenance and certification could be guaranteed to ensure product quality and operational safety.
TRANSPARENCY AND EFFICIENCY WILL REDUCE COST & TIME
The planning of the logistics processes would be transparent, efficient and deliver the lowest cost solution. The improved traceability in the supply chain would enable improved inventory management and eliminate waste.
SMART CONTRACTS ENSURE GLOBAL PAYMENTS
Smart contracts are self-executing contracts that can be triggered by an external real-world event. Applying blockchain technology to instant settlement of transactions could reduce friction in commercial financing, which is currently an area from which many trade disputes arise. Dispute resolution rules could be agreed upon beforehand and applied instantly on the blockchain when necessary.
INCREASE IN EFFICIENCY ALONG the GLOBAL LOGISTICS NETWORK

We plan to roll out increasing number of value-added services while adding stakeholders from chemical supply chain and logistics to LogChain. With each new stakeholder, we will introduce governance rules that will automate and incentivize many process that were till now manual and not transparent. These strategies will favor information transparency, data sharing, win-win partnerships, accountability and verifiability of tracking records and shipments, and thus result in rise of LOG token’s value.
TOKEN SUPPLY AND DEMAND
IS CIRCULAR WITHIN OUR
INCENTIVES DRIVE USAGE AND VALUE
All stakeholders of LogChain will be incentivized to acquire and own LOG tokens. Ownership of LOG token grants not only data exchange but also enables access to value added services and information, such as tracking shipments, receiving customs updates, location checking, selecting transport or intermodal provider, booking freight, etc.
We will also ensure the supply of LOG tokens is limited and in high demand by regularly recycling them. As the overall value of the system will rise, so will the value of the LOG token, which represents at once value and information unit of LogChain.
TOKENS CAN BE EARNED, PURCHASED AND TRADED
Transactions LogChain for ISO Tank and other shipments will be paid and settled in LOG tokens. In addition to earning tokens (see section “Incentives”), LogChain users can also purchase tokens accepting fiat and major cryptocurrency denominations. To further add value in long term to LOG token, LogChain will enlist its tokens on major crypto exchanges regionally and globally, thus leveraging on perceived economic advantages of this disruptive technology which will cause higher liquidity via trading.
THE LOGCHAIN PROTOCOL IS INTERNET-OF-THINGS (IOT) READY
THE PROTOCOL TO ENABLE IOT
Being IOT ready then every element and stakeholder can use new technology on an immutable platform that is trust less and transparent. Unlike other offerings in the market, LogChain is not looking to build into the protocol side commercial interests such as brokerage services.
We intend Logchain to disrupt and revolutionize International freight, all modes, all sectors. Think of LogChain as the Logistics Internet 2.0, here for all.
DOES IT WORK?
Any information pertaining to shipments will be included in the main block chain, but commercially sensitive information will be carried in a separate side chain as part of our smart contracts – both protected by blockchain technology. This is the basis of the immutable and trust less information.
Our smart contracts will vastly improve settling of commercial agreements whilst reducing claims and disputes. Internal trade will be easier with the arrangement of LC’s being based on LogChain.
INCENTIVES WILL ENSURE ADOPTION AND CONTINUITY
- Receive LOG tokens
- Access to updated and valuable information from other parts of the supply chain, including that of shippers, customs, sending and receiving ports, 3PL and ISO Tank operators, IOT systems etc.
- Receive positive rankings and points
- Privileged access to potential client pools, incl. shippers (producers of chemicals), trucking companies
- Receive invitations to participate/contribute to workshops and seminars organized by regulatory bodies
- Considered & selected for partnership, alliance inside the
FROM ASIA TO EUROPE, AND THEN THE WORLD
Logistics drives commerce all around the world, but is also notoriously difficult to manage effectively. Industry containerization standards created 60 years ago were revolutionary at that time, but today, the numerous handovers from merchant to loaders, transporters, shippers and forwarders make the chain susceptible to human error and exploitation. This has resulted in more than just consumer inconvenience; they cause large revenue losses, immense resource wastage and dangerous safety incidents.
LogChain is a service protocol that allows stakeholders to track all aspects of the chemical logistics supply chain through innovative blockchain technology. This connectivity will be further enhanced through the incorporation of the IOT, ensuring integrity, safety compliance and traceability in all transport modes, including: tank container operations, parcel tankers, flexitanks, drums and road tankers.
This will also provide visibility in terms of specifications, compatibility, compliance and certifications through the immutable recording of data on blockchain. The result of this will be higher safety standards, stronger accountability, increased security, full regulatory compliance, elimination of fraud and the improvement in service levels.
LogChain example: intermodal container operations
THE CHEMICAL LOGISTICS SECTOR
As the chemical industry continues to grow in a complex global environment, the risks, volatility and uncertainty in the supply chain increase. With the LogChain Protocol all aspects of chemical transport operations, such as specification, cleaning, maintenance and certification, would be guaranteed to ensure regulatory compliance, product quality and operational safety. The highly regulated and challenging chemical and petrochemical industries will benefit from the immutability of the data and will be able to improve supply chain safety and security by eliminating fraud and human factors that currently cause errors and delays.
The LogChain Protocol will transform the movement of chemicals around the world, enabling businesses to maximise their potential while at the same time protecting people and the environment.
